Description

Nesru Aba Nura

Recent research uncovered that while women account for 75% of Ethiopia’s coffee production labour, they receive just 34% of the total income generated. And less than half of them receive any income whatsoever.

Historical gender dynamics in the country have restricted the progression of woman producers, but there are signs of improvement. In the past couple of years, a number of initiatives have had success with increasing the participation of Ethiopian women in the industry.

Step forward Nesru Aba Nura. Very much one of this new generation of pioneering producers, her 9-hectare farm sits at a staggering 1,950-2,000 masl. This coffee is from her first year of harvest and is proof that she is already producing coffees of considerable complexity and quality.

In the cup, the coffee has a primarily citrus flavour profile complimented with multi-layered sweet spice notes and a syrupy mouthfeel.

Illustrated with Communion Coffee

We invite people we work with to taste coffees before they’re released, to help define the tasting notes that inform the brush stroke illustration for the coffee. For this coffee, we invited the team at Communion Coffee.
